Global Fashion Summit 2025 in Copenhagen
From June 3-5, 2025, I had the opportunity to attend the Global Fashion Summit 2025 in Copenhagen.
I was invited to this congress together with David Williams, the CEO of MODERN MEADOW.
Many visitors to the MODERN MEADOW information stand were interested in the alternative material INNOVERA, which we refine at HELLER-LEDER and HELCOR-LEDER-TEC. David and I also took part in a live panel discussion on the topic “The future of biotechnology in the industry” on the stage of the Concert Hall. VIDEO LIVE ROUND CONCERT HALL
It was a special honor to meet Her Majesty Queen Mary Elizabeth of Denmark in person during our presentation and to exchange a few words with her about the state of our industry and the partnership with MODERN MEADOW for the INNOVERA material. The Queen is a very nice and attentive person who was genuinely interested, informed and asked intelligent questions. The meeting was very pleasant.
They were very intense and informative days. I can't count how many times I was able to correct ignorance or misinformation about the leather industry in conversations. The lack of knowledge about the actual situation of suppliers and their industry was remarkable. It is also remarkable that the top companies in our leather industry are already ahead of the fashion industry when it comes to the environment, sustainability and social responsibility.
Anyone in the leather industry who did not start doing their homework many years ago will hardly have a chance of survival.
In this context, a sentence that I couldn't resist saying at the congress takes on particular significance: “The days when you can only choose suppliers based on the cheapest price are over!” Of course, nobody wants to hear that, but it's a fact. As far as this is concerned, we at HELLER and HELCOR are ideally positioned and ready. Ready for an exciting future, also in new markets. The fact that people really listened to me and valued my opinion in discussions, behind closed doors and on stage, is a good sign for us and for the best in our industry.
